VOLUNTEER HOTLINE TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT

CONTACT of Mercer County, NJ

CONTACT of Mercer County, NJ, Inc. Offers 40 Hour HOTLINE Training Course
For People Who Want To Make A Positive Difference In Our Troubled World
Volunteers Now Being Recruited

Here is a way to help.  Learn to listen with compassion and skill.  Give hope to callers.  Starting on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 and running for ten weeks, the 67th training course for volunteer
HOTLINE Specialists will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1985 Pennington Road,
Ewing, 08618.   Classes for prospective volunteers are three hours each and are offered at two times: 9:30am and 7:30pm.

Classes are open free of charge to the general public, age 18 or older.  References are required before
actual volunteer work begins.  For those who wish to take the training for personal growth, without
the obligation to volunteer, the fee for the course is $150.00.  College students are encouraged to
enroll in training.  It may be possible to get college credit for internships on the HOTLINE  by arrangement with college professors.  To register online, go to VOLUNTEER OPORTUNITIES.
Helping people with serious problems requires volunteers who are trained and skilled.  Callers to the HOTLINE experience a wide variety of problems, some of them life threatening.  The training course teaches Active Listening and Crisis Intervention Techniques and provides information from
community experts on many topics such as substance abuse, mental illness, grief, loss, problems
with relationships, and suicide prevention.

Upon satisfactory completion of training, each trainee is expected to volunteer at least 100 hours.
